Occupy Tucson, the local branch of the Occupy Wall Street movement, will celebrate its one-year anniversary on Sunday, October 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in De Anza Park. A full day of activities is planned, beginning with a welcome table at 9:00 a.m. People are encouraged to drop in any time throughout the day.
Musical entertainment, including Tucson’s Raging Grannies, will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a General Assembly at 3:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to participate in direct democracy in action, which is a hallmark of the Occupy movement.
A potluck meal will be served at 5:00 p.m., so all are invited to bring a dish to share and to bring their own place settings to decrease the environmental impact of the event. Attendees are also encouraged to bring gently used clothing and/or nonperishable food items to be redistributed to those in need, though donations are not required.
The day will conclude with a free outdoor movie at 7:00 p.m.
Everyone who has been involved, is involved, or would like to be involved in Occupy Tucson is encouraged to join us!
De Anza Park is at the southeast corner of Speedway and Stone.
